Florida Considers Legalizing ADUs

Current state law allows cities to permit accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in single-family neighborhoods but does not require it. Proposed bills aim to mandate municipalities to allow ADUs, potentially providing affordable housing for lower-income workers. Homeowners adding ADUs would retain their homestead property exemptions, but these units would not be allowed for short-term rentals. Rising housing costs, including HOA fees and insurance premiums, are pushing Floridians to sell their homes.
